Grape variety: Grignolino d'Asti
Alcohol: 13,5 %
Region: Monferrato, Piedmont
Winemaker: Nadia Verrua
Ottavio is one of the family portraits Nadia Verrua draws through her wines: Ottavio is in fact Nadia's father and she dedicates to him a very particular grape, Grignolino. It is an exclusively Piedmontese variety, which finds its ideal habitat mainly in the hills of Asti and Monferrato. Considered one of the minor grapes of Piedmont, it owes its name to the abundance of seeds in the berries, called "grignòle" in the local dialect. In this bottle you can find the quintessence of Grignolino: light red color, thin but vigorous tannins and good acidity, it is not an immediate wine, but with due time it opens up to fruity and spicy aromas, with pomegranate, blackcurrant, wild strawberry and black pepper, and in the mouth it shows all its juicy and rustic simplicity, like a true country gentleman.
