Grape variety: Grüner Veltliner
Alcohol: 13%
Region: Kamptal
Winemaker: Christoph and Matilde Daignère-Koller
The rolling hills of Kamptal, a small production area squeezed between Krems and Tulln, are the homeland of this great Grüner Veltliner. Gegenwind is the name of the vineyard where the grapes grow: the vines are older than 50 years old and are planted at the highest top of the hill, well exposed to sun and winds, hence the name ‘upwind’, on soils rich in clay and loess. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hands in the second half of October, foot-pressed, and the resulting juice is left for 24 hours in contact with the skins. Fermentation takes place spontaneously and the wine is then aged in large 1000-liter austrian casks till summer. The bouquet is very pleasant, delicate, and balanced between fruit and spiciness, with subtle nuances of wet stones. The sip is elegant and very inviting. A great expression of the soul of this territory.
