March was a month full of events and diners. Thank you for everyone who joined us. For those who couldn’t, don’t worry, we keep some surprises for you!
We had the pleasure to officially announce the 3rd edition of Vinifair, which will take place on May 24th. You can buy a ticket online, at the shop or at the bar. We are so looking forward once more to share our passion and pour delicious wines on Karmeliterplatz.
Further we have two fun appointments on the April calendar planned:
Now to this current week's tasting:
We begin in Viterbo, Latium with our dear friends Clémentine and Gian Marco. Pizzicante Bianco is the Ancestrale version Le Coste produces mainly from Trebbiano and Moscato. The wine ends its fermentation in the bottle, and disgorgement takes place by hand in the historic cellars of Gradoli after at least one year.
The second wine this week is a 100% Vermentino from Toscana. "I Mandorli" is a young company in constant change. The first vineyards, which we planted 10 years ago, are rooted in hard, ferrous soil, which gives the wines their metallic-colored expression. The nearby sea influences the climate, dries the grapes with a constant wind and helps to keep them healthy.
This Vermentino is an explosion of Mediterranean flavors sip after sip.
Almost 40 years ago, three friends, all passionate about their agricultural roots, founded the Valli Unite in Piemonte. The once small farm has since grown to a considerable size and, in addition to arable farming and livestock breeding, viticulture has expanded the estate's range of activities. Rosatea is blend of Cortese, Barbera, Freisa, Riesling, Malvasia, Brachetto and a few other aromatic varieties. The grapes are co-fermented and only see 24 hours on skins. Fruit forward, crunchy, herbal and dry.
In the heart of Tuscany, Francesco de Filippis is experimenting in biodynamic with international and classic grapes. Made of Malvasia and Trebbiano, Daphné 2021 is an orange cuvée, fermented, fined and aged in wooden barrels, after a short maceration in open vats. With a nice acidity, well structured tannic layers and a lot of aromas! Cosimo Maria Masini indeed know what they are doing!
Last but not least, we’re finally heading to France! In 2002, between Banyuls and Coullioure, Bruno Duchêne founded his small domaine. With carefully selected vines, and a lot of work in steep slopes and small terraces, in areas that can only be cultivated by hand. They are planted mainly with the traditional grape varieties of the south - Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Grenache Gris. La Luna rouge 2022 is a heavy red made of Carignan and grenache. Spicy and intense, it’ll transport you for a while in the sunny french catalunya.
