Tasting 7th March

on March 06, 2024
Dear Vinifero-Friends,

Wanting to keep up the good vibes of last month, we'd like to share what we have planned so far for March:
As the days get longer and longer, temperatures are warmer and a few leaves start appearing, Karmeliterplatz becomes a very beautiful spot. And it’s exactly there where you can find some fantastic wines behind lovely smiles and skilful hands (and wine glasses of course!)

Two are the foody appointments on the March calendar for now:

  • On Saturday 16th March, our kitchen is taken over by Tobi Wachsenegger (IG at zweiundvierzigmeter), a young creative Viennese mind that gained great experience in several restaurants, such as Noble Savage, Zum Roten Bären and Kommod. With a family style dining, he will create a menu inspired by seasonality with locally sourced ingredients, the pillars of the cuisine we like. More details nearer the time, menu will be priced at 60,-€ per person, starting at 7PM
  • On Wednesday 20th March, we are extending the series of Vinifero New Year celebrations together with our friend Romina - be our guest at Nouruz, the Persian festivity to welcome the new Year and spring season. Romina will prepare an Iranian inspired menu, made of traditional flavours, spices and zing, which we will have fun pairing our wines with. Menu will be priced at 45,-€ per person, starting at 7PM

For reservations contact us by phone (tel: +43 681 8127 8188) or email to office@vinifero.at

Lets start this week tasting in Autstria.

In Apetlon, Eva and Berthold Haider like their PetNats to be explosive and expressive, like this bubbly red Jung & Sexy 2023 made from Rösler and Blauburger. Juicy, dark berries and soft tannins are the harbingers of a cheeky sparkling wine that promises enormous drinking pleasure.

In the hills of Piemonte, 3 friends have been making wine for about 40 years. Not only producing wine, Valli Unite is also an organic farm. Ciapé 2020 is a white wine made of 100% Cortese grapes. With its intense straw yellow color, it expresses the most typical and incontrovertible characteristics of this variety with charming simplicity: the 24 hours long maceration time helps to unwrap fruity and floral scents on the nose, while the balance between minerality and acidity in the mouth is excellent.

Between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, a marvel that eventually turned into the name of his winery, les ânes ailés. The wines are all without added sulphites and the artist labels inspire a sense of magic and mystery.  Only 2000 bottles produced, so we are lucky to be able to offer you some! Kik-Off Gris 2020 is made of Mostly Grenache Gris. After pressing, the wine rested in barriques until the following spring. A gorgeous, hazy shade of purple in the glass, it draws you in with soaring aromas of wildflowers, blood orange and spice, whilst the palate displays a wonderful density of fruit and an intense, stony quality.

A small wine revolution is brewing up in Baden, led by the young winemakers at the Scherer & Zimmer winery in Bad Krozingen. They see wine as a "drinking pleasure for all generations" and want to get it out of the elitist corner. Rosé 2021 is made of 100% pinot noir. After being pressed, the wine rested a little while in barrique. Vibrant color, fresh and fruity.

And we finish in Piemont; Teresa 2022 made only of Ruché, a very aromatic grape. Teresa exudes Monferrato through the aromas and peculiarities of the variety: the nose begins with vinous scents, dark notes of blackberries and herbaceous hints, while the mouthfeel is fresh and at the same time full and rich, dark and deep. Rusticity is not missing, the great trademark of Cascina Tavijn's wines, a feature that always succeeds in taking us to the sweet hills of Monferrato Astigiano with just one glass.

See you at Karmeliterplatz 2, plenty and thirsty!
