Grape varieties: Grenache Gris
Alcohol: 14,5%
Region: Banyuls-sur-mer, Roussillon
Winemaker: Francesco Pesci
Beside the fruitier and easy drinking wines, Francesco makes two other labels from older vines that better capture the essence of Banyuls. The grapes for Kik-off Gris come from a plot that Francesco owns in Banyuls, it is made mainly of Grenache Gris, with tiny amounts of the other Grenache which are naturally co-planted there.
The vineyard faces to the North and has a cooling influence from the neighbouring mountains, allowing for full maturity, yet preserving acidity.
After a week of maceration, the wine continues to ferment in old barriques, until bottling takes place after 10 months. A powerful wine with complexity, spice, tannin and alcohol, but also a vein of freshness that keeps it very alive. No added sulfur, well done Kikko!
